Realme GT 6T
A good option to consider, especially for fans of ColorOS. A good main camera but that's all, the 8mp ultrawide might as well not be there.
Performance focused phone, and it delivers in that department.
Pros:
Cons:
-
The snapdragon 7+ gen 3 performs well, and outperforms pixel 8's tensor g3 in both CPU and GPU. Which is to be expected at this point honestly.
-
Doesn't get very hot, good heat management.
-
A good main camera, decent zoom upto 3x. Night mode is also improved.
-
One of the best battery life you'll find. Not just in its 5500mah capacity, but it also lasts long in real world usage.
-
120w charging, 0-100 in 30 mins depending on your room temperature.
-
The screen is gorgeous, over a 1000nits of brightness and high resolution means gaming and content viewing experience will be great.
-
Speakers sound good and get pretty loud.
-
Has gorilla glass victus 2 protection, which can be useful in those accidental drops.
-
Theres only one good camera, the other 8mp ultrawide is just for the sake of spec sheet. Even in good lighting its barely decent.
-
The base model which is 128GB comes with UFS 3.1, while higher storage options come with UFS 4. People can accidentally buy the 3.1 model thinking its UFS 4
-
No IP rating, but some countries have it. Not sure if they have different builds for different countries, or just didn't apply for IP certification.
-
Only one camera to take portraits, so don't expect any zoom levels.
Choose your mid-ranger
Note: the phones are not in order from best to worst, its upto your needs what makes one better than other.
Oneplus 12R
More expensive than others in the list but it constantly goes on sale. Has a full fledged 8 gen 2, a 5500mah battery, a great main camera, and ip64 rating.
Although it does have an useless 8mp ultrawide and a 2mp macro.
Pros:
-
IMX 890 main sensor, the same as in oneplus 11 and many others. Software has been improved for both day and night, making the output even better.
-
Again, with a 8 gen 2, this is a performance focused phone. And it does perform very good, even in gaming and heavy load, it doesn't get too hot.
-
A 6.8in 1440p display, that is both crisp and bright. Great for media consumption and gaming, especially give the performance and heat management.
-
100W charging is quick, quicker than you'll ever need. Charging upto 50% in just 10 mins.
-
Battery life is great, as you'd expect from a 5500 mah phone. Can easily last 2 days on light usage, and easily a day on heavy usage.
-
Supports Dolby vision and HDR 10+, something that is really good especially paired with the crisp quad hd display.
Cons:
-
Except main camera, both ultrawide and macro camera don't belong here. Although they can take usable photos, even a 2x telephoto would have been more useful.
-
OxygenOS is extremely similar to ColorOS, and even renamed to ColorOS in some markets. This is not a dealbreaker, but could be for some who don't like the UI.
-
Speakers are good, but don't sound very good in soundstage and noise separation.
-
The front camera is just a 16mp sensor, which does take decent pictures but could have been improved in many aspects. It also has fixed focus. This is something most companies cheap out on to save costs.
-
Only has UFS 3.1 options, no UFS 4. So not the latest, but not very slow either.
Xiaomi poco x6 pro
Comes with UFS 4, a 64mp main camera, and plenty of battery. The processor is dimensity 8300 ultra.
The phone has one of the best performance in its price range, in both CPU and GPU.
Pros:
-
Great performance, even in long sessions it performs great. Doesn't heat up too much, and throttling is kept to minimum.
-
The 5000mah battery is great, and will easily last a day.
-
The 67w charging is fast, 0-50% in 20 mins or less. While full charge can take less than 50 minutes.
-
Has IP54, so accidentally getting it wet in the rain or dropping it shouldn't affect the phone at all.
-
Comes with HyperOS, which is a big improvement over MIUI in terms of performance and fluidity both.
-
The main camera takes great pictures, and the improved night mode helps in reducing noise and brightening up dark pictures.
-
3 years of OS updates promised, which is pretty standard at this point from mid-range to high end.
Cons:
-
The selfie camera is average at best. It takes good enough photos in strong lighting, but nothing that you could call really good.
-
Speakers are good but quality-wise pretty average.
-
The 2mp macro needs to die already, it serves no purpose for majority of the users and the quality is pretty bad in most situations.
-
While photos are good, video recording isn't. It's pretty average and you're better of recording at 1080p.
-
Nit-picking but gorilla glass 5 is already 8 years old, better screen protection could have been used.
Realme 12 pro+
Pros:
-
A good main camera and a 3x periscope puts it ahead of others in this price range. Since most come with only an 8mp ultrawide.
-
Battery life is great, with 67w charging. Easily lasting a day for most people.
-
Performance is decent, enough to get you through moderate use without much hiccups.
-
The 3x camera performs really well, and so does the main camera.
-
A 32mp selfie camera is better than the 16mp others have to offer. With more details in selfies.
-
Night mode is improved and realme UI is improved as well.
A camera focused phone, with 7s gen 2. It has a proper 3x periscope lens, and a good main camera.
Get this phone only for the cameras, as everything else is done better by the competition.
While realme 13 pro+ is out, it only offers minor improvements for a higher price.
Cons:
-
While the main and zoom cameras are really good, the software processing is a hit or miss. Meaning, sometimes the image turn out really good, while other times it can take bad pictures. It's down to the software in this case, since the sensors are pretty good for this segment.
-
The display is decent, but maxes out at around 800 nits in auto mode. Even lower if you turn it to full brightness manually.
-
Speakers are decent but not anything special.
-
7s gen 2 performs decently, but nowhere close the poco x6 pro. If you're a power user then this phone isn't a good fit for you.
-
Realme UI has improved a lot, but can still has inconsistencies here and there when compared to ColorOS, OxygenOs, and HyperOS.
Honor 200
Just like the Honor 200 pro, this phone carries on a similar design and specs from its more expensive sibling. The portrait camera remains unchanged, but ip certification is removed.
A good main camera as well, along with the same 5200mah battery.
Comes with 7 gen 3, so expect performance to be good for the most part.
Pros:
-
Another camera focused phone, with a proper 2.5x telephoto, and a 12mp ultrawide. An upgrade from the usual 8mp ultrawide.
-
7 gen 3 performance is pretty good. Sustained performance is decent, but there will be a bit higher heat generation than you'd want.
-
5200mah battery and 100w charging is really good. Battery will easily last a day and 100w is really useful to get that extra charge just before going out.
-
Magic OS has improved a lot with the 8 version and even bigger improvements and optimizations are expected with the MagicOS 9 release.
-
A 50mp front camera with 4k. Unlike other phones in this segment, this phone has not ignored front camera at all.
Cons:
-
Uncertain future of MagicOS. While its good, the major updates arrive much later than other major brands.
-
MagicOS is improved but still falls short when compared to others.
-
UFS 3.1, instead of 4. But since its a mid-range device, it is to be expected.
-
No IP rating at all, many devices in this price are starting to offer ip64 or higher.
-
The 12mp ultrawide is not bad, but just like the 200 pro its decent. Although since there's a proper telephoto camera, theres not much to complain.
-
The speakers again are loud but soundstage, and vocal separation from instruments seems to be pretty average.
A great option for many users who prefer clean android. A good screen, large battery, and great speakers. Along with proper ip68 rating, something that is usually lacking in this price range.
You also get some useful moto features, but be wary of slow and delayed updates.
Motorola Edge 50 fusion
Pros:
-
You get stock android with very slight changes and optimizations, along with moto features.
-
7s gen 2 performs great, the sustained performance again is pretty good. Much better performance than many others in the same price.
-
A 5000mah battery that lasts long, along with 67w charging which is pretty fast. You can upto 65% in 30 mins, if you start from 0.
-
A 144hz display thats also crisp and bright. Nothing to complain about here.
-
Speakers are pretty loud, louder than many others but also sound good.
-
The main camera takes good pictures in both day and night, while the 13mp ultrawide performs pretty decent and is not by any means bad.
-
The 32mp front camera isn't ignored either, and does fairly well.
Cons:
-
Although technically not a con, but it comes with UFS 2.2
-
Most phones in this segment come with similar UFS speeds so can't complain really.
-
Although the phone has 67w charging, it seems to be charging slower than 67w for the most part. Perhaps to minimize heat generation.
-
Doesn't support HDR if that's important for you.
-
Motorola's long-term reliability in both hardware and software is still hit or miss, so proceed with caution.
